AIWaysion Partners on $3.99M USDOT SS4A Project for AI-Powered Transportation Safety
AIWaysion is an industry partner on a new $3.99 million U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) project led by the University of Utah. Titled “Integrated AI Computing and V2X Infrastructure Systems for Safer Streets,” the project will explore how artificial intelligence (AI), vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology, real-time sensing, and connected infrastructure can help transportation agencies identify roadway risks earlier and move from reactive safety measures toward more predictive approaches.
Led by University of Utah researchers Cathy Liu and Chenxi Liu, the project brings together AIWaysion with the Utah Department of Transportation, Wasatch Front Regional Council, Salt Lake City, Garfield County, the Trinidad Rancheria, Johns Hopkins University, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Work will span multiple transportation environments and communities, including Salt Lake City, Garfield County, and the Trinidad Rancheria.
The project will focus on multimodal safety data collection, predictive sensing demonstrations, and real-time alert systems designed to support transportation safety planning and decision-making. By integrating AI-powered computing with connected infrastructure, the project aims to demonstrate how emerging transportation technologies can improve safety for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users while informing future updates to Comprehensive Safety Action Plans.
AIWaysion is proud to contribute its experience in Edge AI, intelligent transportation systems, multimodal traffic sensing, and real-time roadway safety applications to this collaborative effort. The project builds on AIWaysion’s work developing smart transportation infrastructure that helps agencies transform real-time roadway data into actionable safety insights.
